Install Xenia on a Shopify store, enable the theme embed, and understand what the app reads and writes.
The Shopify install is the fastest way to run Xenia. You install one app, and the store connection, customer sync, storefront delivery, and billing are all wired for you. Xenia runs embedded inside your Shopify admin, so you never leave Shopify to view status.
Install
Add the app
Install Xenia Martech from the Shopify App Store, or from an install link shared by the Xenia team. Shopify shows you the permissions the app requests before you approve.
Approve the scopes
The app requests read access to customers, orders, checkouts, customer events, and products, and write access to products, discounts, pixels, and metaobjects. See what Xenia accesses for why each one is needed.
Sign in
The embedded app authenticates you through Shopify. On first open, Xenia provisions your workspace and starts syncing customers and orders in the background.
Run onboarding
The embedded onboarding wizard is one tap: Xenia already knows your storefront URL from the verified session, so it starts researching your store immediately and then asks you to review what it found. See Getting Started.
Enable the theme embed
Your dashboard shows a Finish setup: enable Xenia in your theme card. It deep links into the Shopify theme editor with the Xenia AI Core app embed pre-selected. Toggle it on and save.
The app embed is what runs on your storefront. Without it, Xenia cannot see what shoppers do on your pages, so anything triggered by browsing behavior stays silent and on-site personalization does not appear. Journeys triggered by orders and customer records still work, because those come from your store's admin data.
The setup card clears itself once Xenia sees storefront traffic, which may take a little while after you save. If it is still showing, it usually just means no shopper has loaded a page since you enabled the embed. Visit your own storefront to confirm.
The embedded workspace
The embedded app is a focused subset of the full platform, built around the surfaces a single store needs:
Shopify merchants see a Shopify-first node palette. Nodes that only make sense for a multi-platform org, such as raw webhook responses and org-level Meta nodes, are hidden rather than shown broken.
What you can build
Once the store is connected and the embed is on, these become available:
- Journeys triggered by store events. Order created, order paid, order cancelled, checkout started, customer created, customer updated, product updated.
- Journeys triggered by shopper behavior. Page view, exit intent, add to cart, time on page, scroll depth.
- On-site personalization. Swap sections of a page for a given visitor context.
- Store actions inside a journey. Create a Shopify discount, enrich a customer profile, or check whether an order was placed before sending a recovery message.
- Visual page variants. Point and click edits generated by AI. See Shopify Visual Editor.
What Xenia accesses
Shopify lists the exact permissions on the install screen. In plain terms, Xenia asks to:
Xenia does not ask for access to your theme files.
Privacy requests
Shopify requires apps that touch customer data to handle privacy requests, and Xenia handles them automatically. If a shopper asks what data you hold or asks to be deleted, and you action it in Shopify, Xenia responds and removes its copy without you doing anything in the app.
Billing
Shopify-installed stores are billed through Shopify's Billing API, so your Xenia subscription and usage appear on your Shopify invoice and no card details are handled by Xenia. The Billing section shows your plan, current usage, and invoice history. See Subscriptions.
Uninstalling
Removing the app from Shopify disconnects the store immediately and stops every journey from sending. Your store's data is then deleted on Shopify's standard schedule.
